E Commerce Venture : Industrial Visit by IPERUG
IPER-UG commerce and management students paid an industrial visit at Ondoor ECommerce Venture facility at J K Road on 08th & 09th March 2016 to learn about the intricacies of E-commerce business.
Industrial Visit Learning Outcome
During the industrial visit, We met Mr. Praveen Birthare, HR Head and Mr. Murli Nayar, Manager HR who welcomed the Students and Faculty of IPER-UG at the entrance of the facility. We were taken around the actual working area and then Mr. Praveen explained about the functioning of the organisation. He informed that the orders are received from customers in three ways, one through mobile app, second through internet and last through telephone via dedicated call centre. He explained to the students about advertisements, promotional measures taken by Ondoor to fulfill customer satisfaction. He also told the gathering about Motivation provided to the employees and surveillance and safety measures taken up by the company for avoiding pilferages and accidents.
Mr. Rajesh Subramanian, Operations Head, Bhopal then took over the stage for explaining how each operation for processing the customer order is handled. E-commerce is not only about buying and selling of products he said, but efficient logistics management and customer fulfillment ratio are the core functional area of Ondoor. Recording of the information about customer choices and frequency of demand with allotment of Id to each order is an important tool for the business to procure grocery and vegetables and arrange deliveries to the customer accordingly.He informed about the complete process which is all about team Operationswhen an order is processed. How segregation of order of Grocery and vegetable take place and pairing at the time of Invoice. How the retrieval mechanism works for item pick-up to invoiceand delivery to the bay areas, then to dispatch section and finally to billing counter from where the actual loading takes place for onward movement to customer premises. Their mobile app, internet and call center follow up on the customer satisfaction. Customer feedback about experiences in their ordering and receiving their choice items are taken into consideration for improvement in the processing of orders by the company. He also informed that the company follows 100 % unquestionable return policy wherein if the customer is not satisfied, he can return the entire order without being questioned in any way.
After the inspiring, motivational and informative speech during the industrial visit by IPER UG students, there was an interactive session wherein our students asked many questions related to the business as well as shared their on-line shopping experience.
The Ondoor company has grown from small start to now having more than 5 warehouses and more than 200 employees within 8 to 10 months period of their operation in Bhopal, handling almost 3000 orders per day. Their ecommerce portal is quite a happening place where customers frequent for online purchasing.
Students were given complementary lunch. Thereafter a photo session was organised with the Officials of Ondoor and IPER-UG HOD Commerce, Dr. Upasana Sharma presented a memento to Mr. Rajesh and Mr. Praveen as a token of acknowledging the hospitality and learning visit our students enjoyed on their facility.
