To follow learning in action philosophy, IPER conducted a two day workshop on “Futuristic Management Teaching”

A two day workshop was held on “Futuristic Management Teaching – Strategies & Practices” on 29th and 30th Mar 2014 sponsored by Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) – Madhya Pradesh organized by IPER business school. The workshop was well attended by the faculty members from reputed Management Colleges of Indore and Bhopal.

The Treasurer of IPER group of institutions Mr. Narendra Rawtani inaugurated the two day workshop.

The workshop was presided over by the Prof (Dr.) Amarjeet Singh Khalsa, Group Director, IPER. Prof. Mahesh Soni, Chairmen-Admission and Coordinator of the program, welcomed all the gathering and briefed the workshop.

The resource persons for the workshop were Prof. (Dr.) K Rangarajan, Professor (Strategic Management), Head-Centre for SME Studies, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), Kolkata (W.B.) The topics covered under the “Futuristic Management Teaching – Strategies & Practices” were (a) Case Based Teaching Methodology (b) Business Analytics and Application in Management Teaching (c) Innovative Teaching Methodology and (d) Research Paper/Article Writing and Application. The certificates were issued to all the participants during the valediction of the seminar.

“Futuristic Management Teaching – Strategies & Practices” – The Faculty Workshop

 About the Program

Business Schools all across the world are striving to improve service delivery and seek out ways and means of making their practices more responsive to the needs of the corporate sector. This trend has led B-School practitioners to adopt Futuristic Strategies & Technologies as a means of streamlining their operations, increasing their outreach and improving on service delivery.

Continuous innovation in management teaching represents the ultimate source of competitive advantage. What is required in this dynamic & ever changing business environment is a dramatically accelerated pace of strategic renewal which is striving towards making innovation everyone’s job, every day.

Statistics shows that 80% MBA faculty are into teaching by default. Survey have put forth that majority colleges don’t support faculty development. Other case states that management support the development, even the awareness is there among staff but because of personal reasons the faculty does not come up. At times there is no self-motivation for development. The pressure of the overall system is so much thus not making continuous development feasible for the teaching staff.

This Faculty Workshop was a unique 2-Day program that covered essential aspects of business management teaching. The program introduced management faculties to effective approaches to teaching and also help them identify their own strengths and areas for improvement to get them ready to teach management in the continuously changing business scenario.

The workshop concentrated on teaching methodologies in management education, research and development of curricula. It was designed for faculty members of business schools. The overall aim of the program was to improve the general quality of management education in futuristic relevance

 Objective of the Program

Our Faculty Workshop was designed to provide teaching tips, techniques, and to be transformational. The major focus of this Faculty Workshop was on upgrading the teaching, training, and research skills of management teachers- especially those teachers who have not had an opportunity to acquaint themselves with recent developments in teaching and research methods. This workshop enabled participants to develop competence in general management education as well as in management research and pedagogy.

The key objectives of the Faculty Workshop were the development of the teacher’s creative capabilities, so as to enable him/her to manage a complex set of variables:

  • Adaptation to changing business scenario
  • Teaching tools and techniques
  • Contents and knowledge referred to his/her specific field of teaching and Research
  • Self-esteem and management of interpersonal relationships, emotions and feelings audiences and
  • Contexts of teaching

 Outcomes of the Program

Outcomes of the Faculty Workshop initiative were:

  • To develop advanced teaching and learning methods
  • Competency in teaching newer subjects introduced in the curriculum of various universities and colleges
  • Research skills to enhance ability to publish articles, books, etc…
  • Orientation to advance research qualifications such as M.Phil and PhD
  • Orient faculty towards participating in conferences and seminars.
  • To create awareness about various faculty development activities happening across the country
  • To involve in publications and monographs facilitating knowledge in latest subjects and teaching methods

This program was designed to provide research method inputs for doing academic research. It was relevant for:

  • Young Management Teachers and Researchers working in management schools, universities, colleges and professional institutes which teach management subjects.
