Interview Preparation

Well, finding a job is tough, but more tougher is to face it, and make the right impression. I always maintain that before you can ace your interview, you have to actually get the interview. This means that you have to practice your interview to do everything you can to make a good one: be on time, dress and groom yourself well, and be aware of your body language. Let me elaborate my points as,

1. Practicing an interview means preempting the questions that you might be asked. It is always good have a good thought on those questions – the way those needs to be answered. It is always good to google out the details of the company, their latest developments/ventures and other business related information that would be of use. Another important activity to do is to skim through the JD carefully – as this would give an insight into the possible interview questions to watch out for.

2. Making a good first impression is utmost important, because you only get one chance at it. A quick glance,  and the other person forms an opinion about you based on your appearance, your body language, your attitude, your mannerisms, and how you are dressed.
Your body language has to project confidence and self-assurance. Stand tall, a pleasant smile, friendly eye contact and greet with a firm handshake. It goes without saying that good manners and polite, attentive and courteous behavior help make a good first impression. Also be attentive and ensure that you have turned off your mobile. Anything less than 100% of your attention is definitely going to spoil your first impression.
Your interview has to be interactive. With practice of getting interview, you definitely have some good questions prepared to ask related to the job. This is your chance to not only make a good impression, but learn a bit more about the job you’re applying for. This will take you one step ahead of the competition.

Having outlined few things that makes an impact on your interview success, you should also bear in your mind that Not every interview will be a winner.
Sad it is, but even if you do everything right there are chances that you don’t get hired. And if you don’t get hired, you should introspect to find out the reason and apply lessons learned to your next round of interviews. If you look back on your interview and think about what you could have done better, you are sure to win your next interview.
