Clean Energy, Green Energy
Clean energy is critical to strengthening the economy and winning the future. Innovative clean technologies referred to as next generation of technologies need to find more space in our daily affairs.
Energy needs are growing worldwide and difficult to manage than ever – as conventional energy resources (such as coal, oil, nuclear reaction and gas) are fast depleting. These resources being limited, are bound to exhaust. We need to manage the conventional energy smartly, and at the same time non conventional energies (such as solar, wind, hydro, Geothermal and Biomass ) needs to be tapped more so that the energy scarcity can be dealt with.
Traditional power grid has seen almost last 100 years in operations, and is still serving the mankind beyond its life span. It should be phased out, if not already with the new smart grid technology. The smart grid technology enables efficient, flexible and intelligent energy distribution network. Basically, it is consolidation of varied resources, end- user energy management and transport of only the required amount of power.
In addition to the having energy management in place, we need to tap the non conventional resources to its maximum. They are in abundance. All that it takes is to integrate with better battery technology to store energy backed with efficient inverters.
However it is easier said than done. Many green energy projects were conceptualized, but failed due to implementation glitches. One such project was roof top solar power ( Delhi government, 2011) in wake of the ever increasing power needs and tariff. This should have reduced the high tariff of grid electricity. But, this too fell to implementation glitches and this time red tapism was believed to be the reason.
With each passing day, the situation is getting grim and no country can afford to turn a blind eye to it. President Barack Obama said and I quote, “We can’t have an energy strategy for the last century that traps us in the past. We need an energy strategy for the future – an all-of-the-above strategy for the 21st century that develops every source of American-made energy.”
A two day green fair was organized at Van–Vihar, Bhopal on 01/10/13 by WWF – India and Urjavikas Nigam to promote simple and practical renewable energy solutions for individual as well a institutions.I personally feel more like this needs to be done and lot more initiative needs to be taken by NGO’s , governments, institutes and even individuals on their part. And, for the continuing series on ‘energy conservation’, I might reproduce and remix some energy related issues and intiatives that made headlines.
Stay tuned.
