Samvaad – Corporate Day

Universities across the world realize the problems faced by the student when they transit from college to corporate. Jesse H. Jones School of Business (JHJ) ,Texas Southern University’s media communique quoted “Employers today complain that many college graduates lack sufficient writing, analytical, and communication skills and are unable to understand how to operate successfully within the political structure of the business environment”.

Corporate Day – Samvaad is an Industry Engagement that serves as a feed to the academics on the skills expected of graduates. Leaders from the corporate world share the current corporate updates, expectations from employees with reference to the domain they represent and how to gear up for the same. Students get the exposure to business life that awaits & exists outside the college campus in the form of guest lectures. “It was very interesting & informative,” said , Prateek Jadhav, IPER-PGDM student. “I carry a much clearer picture on what to expect when I pass out to the corporates ,” he said.

Each year, corporate day revolves around a certain theme/sector and this year the focus was on “Banking & Retail Sector”. It is expected that in coming years “Banking & Retail” sectors to grow in leaps and bounds. Recent changes in GoI’s (Government of India) policy for the said sectors would serve as growth catalyst. GoI cleared the proposal to allow up to 51% FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) in multi-brand retail, 100% in single brand. In Nov 2003, the RBI (Reserve Bank of India) made a policy change by allowing wholly-owned subsidiary (WOS) of foreign MNC banks to acquire Indian domestic private sector banks as well as set up branches anywhere in the country.

For past 16+ years IPER’s culture is to Create Leaders not just Business Graduate. Samvad is keeping this tradition and culture alive by fulfilling the student’s need along with taking care of corporate expectations”

This year’s corporate day had Lt. Col. (Retd.) Shantanu Choudhary, Regional Manager-Muthoot Finance, Mr. Ram Das Pujari, Business Manager – Lifestyle Stores and Ms. Nandita Malhotra, Bhopal Branch Head -Citi Bank as domain experts from the industry.

The experts gave an insight about specific industry and what’s the success mantra to be successful in corporate world. Per experts, to survive in a corporate world you need a winning formula/mixture of academics, practical mindset, right attitude & hard work. Corporates are looking for people who understand the mindset of industry and can contribute positively right from day one itself.

With the ever changing challenging business world, management schools cannot afford being just a B-School. The strive towards providing a strong education foundation with real case studies, soft skill development, personality growth and other activities needs to be taken in leaps and bounds, plus an opportunity for good placements.

Industry Engaged Learning platforms like these ensure transformation/transition from college studies to the corporate world while still at college has definitely helped in recent years by creating industry ready students for corporates.
